John Glenn Track & Cross Country launches campaign to create dedicated Performance & Wellness Centers, enhancing training, recovery, and athlete development.

Our goal is not simply to fill rooms with equipment. We want to create spaces that our athletes are proud of, spaces that encourage excellence, support wellness, and strengthen our program’s culture.”

NEW CONCORD, OH, UNITED STATES, September 9, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ — The John Glenn Track & Field and Cross Country programs are taking a major step forward in supporting student-athletes with the creation of dedicated Performance and Wellness Centers inside John Glenn High School.

Thanks to generous early support from donors, the programs have secured two rooms within the school that will be transformed into spaces designed specifically for track and cross country athletes. While significant progress has already been made, additional funding is being sought from alumni, businesses, organizations, and community supporters to help fully equip both facilities and maximize their impact for current and future generations of Muskie runners.

The project represents a long-term investment in athlete development, injury prevention, recovery, team culture, and overall student wellness.

A Vision Years in the Making

For decades, John Glenn Track & Field and Cross Country athletes have built a tradition of excellence through hard work, dedication, and perseverance. State qualifiers, conference champions, school record holders, and countless student-athletes have proudly represented the Muskies across Ohio.
Despite those accomplishments, the programs have never had dedicated indoor spaces designed specifically for the training and wellness needs of runners.
That is now changing.

One room will serve as a Performance Center, focused on strength development, conditioning, and supplemental training. The second room will function as a Wellness Center, providing a welcoming environment for recovery, team meetings, academic support, and athlete connection.

Building More Than Better Athletes

According to Head Coach Doug Joy, the vision extends far beyond improving race times.

“This project is about creating an environment where our athletes can thrive physically, mentally, and emotionally,” said Coach Joy. “We want these spaces to help students develop healthy habits, build confidence, recover properly, support one another, and become stronger people, not just stronger runners.”
The facilities are designed to benefit athletes at every level, from first-year runners to varsity competitors.

Planned features include commercial-grade fitness equipment, recovery and wellness resources, collaborative meeting areas, comfortable seating, motivational displays, and dedicated spaces celebrating team history and accomplishments.

Strong Early Support

The campaign has already experienced tremendous momentum. Funding secured to date will allow the programs to purchase core equipment, furnish wellness areas, and create custom wall murals recognizing the alumni and donors who have helped make these spaces possible.

Plans include:
Expanded training equipment
Recovery and mobility stations
Team gathering spaces
Custom wall murals
Enhanced storage and organization systems
Wellness-focused furnishings and amenities

The Need Ahead

Program leaders are seeking additional donations to fully equip both rooms and provide resources that will serve athletes for years to come.

Future funding will support:
Additional training and conditioning equipment
Wellness and recovery resources
Equipment assembly and installation
Electrical and infrastructure improvements
Long-term facility enhancements
Recognition and motivational displays

“Our goal is not simply to fill rooms with equipment,” Coach Joy explained. “We want to create spaces that our athletes are proud of—spaces that encourage excellence, support wellness, and strengthen the culture of our programs.”

Honoring the Past While Building the Future

One of the most meaningful features of the project will be the John Glenn Track & Cross Country Alumni Recognition Wall, a permanent display honoring former athletes who choose to invest in the future of the programs that helped shape their lives.

Any alumnus who contributes $100 or more will have their name permanently added to the Alumni Recognition Wall. There are no levels or tiers for alumni recognition. Whether an alumnus contributes $100 or $10,000, every donor will be recognized equally as a valued member of the John Glenn Track & Cross Country family.

“Every donation matters,” said Coach Joy. “This wall will represent generations of Muskies coming together to support future athletes.”
The wall will serve as a lasting reminder that the success of John Glenn Track & Cross Country has always been built on the dedication and support of those who came before.

Opportunities for Businesses, Organizations, and Major Donors

In addition to alumni support, the campaign is seeking partnerships with businesses, foundations, civic organizations, families, and community leaders who believe in investing in local youth and athletic excellence. All donors who contribute $1,000 or more, whether alumni or non-alumni, will be recognized on a separate Performance and Wellness Center Donor Recognition Wall.

Donor recognition levels include:
Bronze: $1,000–$2,499
Silver: $2,500–$4,999
Gold: $5,000–$9,999
Platinum: $10,000+

These contributions will directly support equipment purchases, facility improvements, wellness initiatives, and long-term enhancements that benefit current and future student-athletes. “Whether it’s an alumnus giving their first gift back to the program, a local family supporting our athletes, or a business making a major investment in our future, every contribution helps create opportunities that will benefit Muskie runners for years to come,” said Coach Joy.

A Legacy That Will Last

The Performance and Wellness Centers are intended to become permanent resources that serve John Glenn Track & Cross Country athletes for many years.
Program leaders hope the project will strengthen athlete development, injury prevention, team culture, and overall wellness while providing a tangible symbol of community support. “When athletes walk into these rooms, we want them to know that generations of alumni, families, businesses, and supporters came together to invest in their success,” Coach Joy said. “That message is powerful. It tells them they are valued and that people believe in what they can accomplish.”
