CUBEX launches Essentials

PR Newswire

A new product line for the veterinary hospitals still managing controlled substances on paper, starting with a smart cabinet that writes the drug log as the work happens.

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz., Sept. 9, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — CUBEX, a leader in inventory automation and medication management for veterinary hospitals, today launched the Mini Essential, the first product in its new Essential Series.

CUBEX®

Most veterinary hospitals still run controlled substances on paper: handwritten logs, end-of-shift counts, and reconciliation that surfaces a discrepancy long after it happened. That costs hospitals twice, in the risk they carry and in the hours they can’t bill. For those that have held off on automating, the barrier has rarely been interest. It has been the assumption that this technology is expensive, hard to learn, and built for hospitals nothing like theirs. For those that waited, Mini Essentials has arrived.

The process is simple and fast. Staff use the solution by fingerprint identification, patients are selected, and medications are dispensed while applying the necessary information in CUBEX’s digital DEA log. Ensuring that you and your staff are safe while being regulatory compliant. If you optionally connect Essentials to your Practice Management System, the process is even quicker, automatically synchronizing patient and medication needs.  What’s more, your inventory volumes are monitored, notifying you when it is time to replenish your medications.

“Every hospital deserves to know who accessed a medication, when, and for which patient. That should not be a capability reserved for the largest teams. Mini Essential gives hospitals the accountability and documentation they need, built around exactly what matters and nothing that does not.”

— Anton Visser, Founder & CEO, CUBEX

Why Mini Essential matters

  • Accountability on every transaction. Every access is tied to a named user, a patient, a quantity, and a time, which replaces handwritten logs and after-the-fact reconciliation.
  • Documentation built as the work happens. Digital drug logs are generated automatically and formatted for DEA review, so DEA recordkeeping is not a separate step at the end of a shift.
  • Inventory that counts itself. Because dispensing and counting are the same action, hospitals see what is running short before it is gone.

Mini Essential ships with two full-height matrix drawers. A matrix drawer is divided into a grid of individual compartments, with each medication assigned to its own pocket, so staff go to a known location instead of searching a shelf and the system tracks what leaves each compartment. Drawers arrive preconfigured with a catalog of commonly used controlled substances, allowing each hospital to select the medications that fit its formulary. Mini Essential manages controlled substances, and Drugs of Concern, alongside the treatment medications used in procedures and in-room care. If your state participates in the Prescription Drug Monitoring Program (PDMP), we have you covered with the CubexPMP add-on.

Everything Essential. Nothing Extra.

Mini Essential is available beginning September 9, 2026. Pricing and terms are available at www.cubex.com/mini-essential
