San Francisco, Sept. 09, 2026 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Buildcheck AI, Inc. (“Buildcheck”), the AI-powered construction design review platform, today announced it has raised $12 million in Series A funding led by Telescope Partners, with participation from WND Ventures, the corporate venture arm of DPR Construction, and follow-on participation from existing investors Uncork Capital, Salt VC, and Xfund. The round comes just nine months after Buildcheck’s $5.9 million seed and brings total funding to $18 million.
Design errors cost the $13 trillion construction industry more than $200 billion every year, and they are cheapest to fix in exactly the place they’re hardest to find: the drawings. Buildcheck’s proprietary computer vision models — developed by co-founder and CTO Alex Gureiev — read blueprints, running hundreds of automated checks that catch the errors, omissions, and coordination conflicts human reviewers miss. Since last year, Buildcheck has grown more than 4x to over 110 paying customers that see 10–35x ROI across data centers, hospitals, multifamily buildings, commercial developments, tenant improvements, and more. Customers include DPR Construction, a forward-thinking, self-performing builder, and household names like EllisDon, Power Construction Company, EMJ Construction, and IMC Construction.
“Last year, we proved AI can review drawings like an experienced contractor — over 150,000 sheets analyzed faster, more consistently, and across every discipline at once,” said Alexander Michalatos, CEO and co-founder of Buildcheck. “Automated design reviews are now becoming a market standard. We’re giving every project what I wished for when I was managing my own hospital design-builds: a tireless co-worker who understands everything about the project, with a seamless platform to bring everyone in one place to fix things.”
“Drawing review has been an accepted pain for decades, costing the industry billions,” said Chris Gaertner, Principal at Telescope Partners. “Buildcheck has changed that, and it couldn’t have been more obvious through our conversations with customers — the quality of the logos, their love for the product, and the ROI on their business was unlike anything we’d seen in this market. It was clear this is fundamentally changing preconstruction in ways many thought weren’t possible.”
“When design information is incomplete or lacks accuracy, the impacts to a project can be substantial,” said Zach Murphy, Design-to-Build Leader at DPR Construction. “Our pilot with Buildcheck is one way we’re increasing design certainty for our teams. By rapidly analyzing design documents and assessing their readiness, Buildcheck helps our reviewers spend more time on critical issues and solutions.”
With the Series A, Buildcheck is expanding within and across general contractors, developers and design firms, while launching four product extensions that expand it from running checks to a comprehensive design review platform:
- Custom Checks turns a company’s own review playbook into AI. Teams upload their QA/QC manuals and internal standards, and Buildcheck parses them into custom review agents that enforce those standards on every drawing set and revision. Every company reviews differently, now the platform reviews the way each customer builds.
- Diffs shows teams what actually changed between drawing revisions, both visually and in plain-language descriptions. Anyone who has compared revisions knows the failure mode of overlay tools: a drawing shifts a centimeter and every element lights up as a change, or a relocated callout with identical content buries the one revision that matters. Diffs is calibrated to ignore the noise and surface the substance in an instant.
- Code Reviews & Value Engineering modules look for some of the most impactful design items on projects: regulatory issues that can halt your progress, and opportunities to revise designs that don’t pencil into something that gets built. Developed through years-long collaboration with experts, these modules are available in beta to customers in the US and Canada.
“There is no reason design errors should exist,” continued Michalatos. “Our technology is approaching a point where drawings can achieve perfection before construction starts. But at Buildcheck we will not stop at finding mistakes, because construction is more than mitigating risk. Construction represents the best of human ambition: the aspiration to create something bigger than yourself that will exist long after you go. Our mission is to build the most-loved software in construction so that our customers can keep building.”
